22 Pot Pourri Above: WINNING TEAM: The brilliant Lynndale (Auckland) junior team chopped five-and-a-half-minutes off the record in the annual Marton-to-Wanganui road relay harrier race recently. Pictured christening their trophy at the Criterion hotel are: Vic Sisson, Eddie Rompelberg, Brian Hamilton (manager), Ian Studd (N.Z. junior cross country champion) and Dennis Dickie (runner up to Studd at the cross country nationals). Below: LIBRARY WEEK OPENED: Guest speaker at the opening of Wanganui Public Library Week was Dr.O.C.Mazengarb, Wellington. A witty speaker, Dr Mazengarb was listened to by a large audience at the function, held in the Alexander library. The Mayor, Mr E.A.Millward, and the chairman of the library committee, Mr A.C.Seivewright, find Dr Mazengarb's speech amusing. Dr Mazengarb later presented a set of Dickens' classics as a prize for an essay competition to be run during library week. A section of the large crowd of interested folk who attended the opening ceremony COMPETITIONS ROUND-UP More than 1400 entries in the 277 classes were received for the Wanganui Competitions Society 1962 festival. Main feature of the festival was the Greyhound Bus Company aria contest which attracted 15 entrants in competition for the fine prize of either 100 guineas or return air fare and expenses to the Sydney aria contest. This event was eventually won by Miss Hannah Tatana, a mezzo-soprano from Auckland. Miss Tatana was with the New Zealand Opera Company in their tour of Carmen. She chose to take the opportunity of going to Sydney as her prize. These pictures were all taken at the demonstration concert at the close of the festival. Winners of the open ballet and costume section were these members of the Pamela Mosen School of Dancing. Carolyn Hayward, Bronwyn Barlow, Barbara Crozier, Dale Almao, and Regina Chainey. Among other successes, tiny Kimba Jackson won the Peter Pan challenge cup for the most promising dancer under 6 years. Colleen Costello and Raewyn Mathews won the tap duo in the 10-14 years age group 23
