60 Fred Chapman, Jim White and John Beresford celebrated their combined birthdays recently. They had 79 candles on the cake. The saws and hammers were really needed to cut the cake....since it was a realistic mock-up of plaster of Paris. Assorted Birthdays NYRON PHOTOGRAPHERS Twins Janice and Neryl Purdom, 6 Kaka Place, Wanganui, recently celebrated their 5th birthday with a party attended by all their friends. NYRON PHOTOGRAPHERS Kathryn, daughter of Mr and Mrs G.Bates, 1A Bute Place, Aramoho, became 12 months old on Thursday last. 61 Hooker Kitto met his match for the first time this season in the S.Islander, Currie. But the visitors packed down better than our lads which could have made a difference. ui Herald Rugby: Wanganui Wins Wanganui won its second rugby match of the season at the expense of South Canterbury in their recent encounter at Spriggens Park. The visitors must be sympathised with as the game should have gone in their favour according to the standards of play. However, Wanganui capitalised and scored twice on the lucky (for them) bounce of the ball. Many of the local chaps suffered bad handling lapses and as for their tackling...well, on one occasion we saw the South fullback waltz past about half-a-dozen Wanganui players. In fairness to our boys we must say that they all played with vigour and that they did deserve their "opportunist" tries for following up hard on the ball. The final score of the game was 14-11. Cooney and Green rush in to try and get the ball from a downed South Islander. These two players were seen in good play in this game. Brian Watson tries to charge down a clearing kick
